John Sheridan

I immigrated to Alice Springs, Australia in 1997 to join my wife, Anna whom I met on the internet and married a year earlier. A retired teacher I worked at relief teaching, cleaned offices and sold maps for Hema before officially retiring in 2005.

I’ve been taking pictures for years but it wasn’t until I began using digital cameras that I gained complete control of my photography and began to produce pictures that others might appreciate and buy. I guess I like the extremes in photography with huge panoramas of stitched photos to show our marvelous landscape at its best, but I also enjoy macro photography, capturing small plants and creatures that often go unnoticed. My background in teaching science leads me to experiment with photography, like my images of fiber optic lighting.

I joined the Australian Photographic Society in 2006 and am working on earning honors by entering photographic contests around the world. I have already won recognition in Austria as well as several national acceptances, winning a 3rd place in the Waltzing Matilda contest in Queensland this year.

Currently some of my work is on display at Ross River Resort, the Telegraph Station, The Tea Shrine, Book City in Yeperenye Shopping Centre and soon within the Alice Springs Airport. I am always delighted to show visitors around the shop on my Greatorex property, lot #3481.
