Rene Martens
I started taking photos just over 30 years ago (and yes on film). I didn’t like to follow others with their photography and started to try and take a lot of abstract photos which excited me but meant that I did spend a lot of money on film and processing (the thought of processing my own photos was not an option). I then found Slide film and wow what a difference that is – vibrant colours and even better cost as far as processing goes.
I stopped taking a photos for about 5 years as I lost interest and was unable to get others also interested in my type of photography. Then came along digital cameras and I didn’t make enough money for a DSLR so ended up eventually buying a compact camera and again start my interest in photography. The only issue was that I had stopped taking abstract photos and liked landscapes. The main thing with landscapes is that you have to go and look for that one in a million photo that others just would like to take. The price of DSLR cameras are dropping (not the full format – that is still just out of my reach) so I bought a Pentax (I did like my old Pentax 1000) and I now enjoy taking many many photos. I now want to get into taking Macro photos so am waiting for a Christmas present that would allow me to take all those small worlds that we seem to just pass by without giving a second look.
I love to talk to people about taking photos as it may even get others involved with this wonderful hobby – now mind you I believe I am responsible for about and extra 10 people now enjoying the same hobby that I love so much.
As I keep say – Get out there and take some photos – Look around you as you will be surprised as to what you can actually see.
